Really, NO parent OCD group around town?! hmmm, that might have to change!

Hi! Does anyone know of an online or in-person OCD parent or parent&kid group? I'd love to start compiling a list as a resource...I'm in KC but I don't care WHERE you are! Let's get the word out there!

  1. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I just followed your link and found yours.
Poor Nora! And poor you! ;) That's gotta be tough to be the mom to a kid with OCD. OCD is irrational enough, without being compounded by being a child and not being totally sure of how the world around you works fully. I count myself lucky that my OCD didn't manifest fully until I was 20. My heart goes out to Nora. I can't stress enough, though, the importance of not giving in to the compulsions. It will make her world smaller and smaller and ever more restrictive. I'm sure it's hard too, to want to comfort her, but having to walk that line of not giving in to the reassuring that OCD wants.
Keep writing! I look forward to reading your posts.

  2. There are several online discussion board support groups for OCD on Yahoo. Some of them are better than others, but there is a wealth of information out there, and, if anything, a lot of support!

There is one in particular for parents of kids with OCD that I've heard about:

    http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ocdandparenting/

There is also one for kids, as well as other groups for parents of adult children with OCD and parents of teens and young adults with the disorder.

These and a lot of others are listed on the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) website under "Online Support":

They also usually have a in-person support group database on their site, but I just noticed that they are updating it right now. But normally it can be found here:

I don't know if you've seen it, but IOCDF page in general has a TON of useful information for sufferers and their loved ones alike.

    I hope this helps!
